About Internships
Tyne Buchy Counselling Collective supports the growth and professionalism of the counselling community by mentoring graduate counsellors in their practicum placements. These counsellors work one to one, with couple's and in group settings (dependent on availability) to facilitate their growth as practitioners, gain experience and complete their requirements for graduation and registration. All of our interns receive direct one to one and group supervision by Approved Clinical Supervisors to meet the requirements of both their schooling programs and the BCACC standards of practice.

Our rates for intern counsellors differ from our Registered Clinical Counsellors.

About Me & My Practice
Hello, my name is Crystal Maloney. My practice is grounded in a lifelong dedication to supporting individuals through life’s challenges with empathy, respect, and authenticity. With over 20 years of experience in the mental health field and as a current Master of Counselling Psychology graduate student, I bring both practical expertise and a sincere commitment to fostering meaningful, therapeutic relationships. I take a strengths-based, client-centered, and trauma-informed approach rooted in humanistic values. I believe each individual is the expert of their own life, and I work collaboratively to explore the values, experiences, and inner strengths that shape their journey. My goal is to provide a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you feel seen, heard, and supported. While I work with a broad range of concerns, I have a particular interest in supporting clients navigating chronic illness, adverse health experiences, grief, and loss.
At the core of my practice is a belief in your innate capacity to heal, grow, and lead a meaningful life. As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a variety of therapeutic modalities and incorporate mindfulness and relaxation techniques when appropriate. Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, chronic illness, life transitions, or grief, I will meet you where you are—with compassion, respect, and a genuine desire to support your well-being.

I am available for in-person and/or virtual sessions with adult clients starting September 2025 through April 2026. I look forward to meeting you!

Experience
Over the past two decades, I have built a diverse career in counselling, social work, private practice, and organizational leadership. My professional roles have included family and community social worker, clinical writer, support group facilitator, counsellor, and assistant executive director of a nonprofit organization. From the outset of my career, I have held a deep interest in grief and loss counselling. In 2002, I completed my fourth-year social work practicum with Interior Health in Patient and Family Counselling, where I worked closely with individuals and families navigating terminal illness. That experience confirmed my passion for supporting those facing grief and bereavement. Most recently, I served as a grief and bereavement counsellor at the North Okanagan Hospice Society. While my career has offered a broad range of professional experiences, I have consistently returned to this meaningful area of work. This commitment ultimately inspired me to pursue a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, with a focus on grief, bereavement, chronic illness, and adverse health experiences.

In addition to my professional experience, I bring a personal connection to grief and loss. I have experienced the deaths of two siblings and a parent due to serious illness. In 2018, I lost my brother to brain cancer, which deeply influenced my desire to advocate for improved patient care. This led me to engage with political leaders and collaborate with directors at Royal Inland Hospital to initiate change. I also served for several years as a volunteer member of the Royal Inland Hospital ICU Patient and Family Advisory Council, as well as the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council Network.

I am deeply passionate about mental health and committed to working with clients through a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, strengths-based, and humanistic lens. I am known for bringing warmth, empathy, and authenticity into my work and take pride in cultivating meaningful therapeutic relationships with each client I support.
